AI FOUNDATIONS: Human-Centered Approaches to AI in the Classroom

Tuesday August 4th, 2026

8:00a - 3:30pm

Marshall Simonds Middle School

Burlington, Ma

Artificial intelligence is already shaping how students learn and how teachers design instruction. Many educators know it matters—but feel unsure how to use it in ways that are meaningful, ethical, and aligned with what they value most about teaching.

This course is designed to change that.

Rather than focusing on tools alone, we’ll explore how AI actually works, how it’s impacting thinking and learning, and how educators can make thoughtful decisions about when—and when not—to use it.

Together, we’ll move beyond surface-level uses of AI and into approaches that enhance student thinking, creativity, and engagement.

By the end of this experience, you will:

  • Develop a clear understanding of AI and its role in education

  • Build confidence in evaluating and using AI tools thoughtfully

  • Explore practical, classroom-ready applications of AI

  • Learn how to design learning experiences that wouldn’t be possible without it

  • Leave with a framework for making ongoing, informed decisions about AI use

This is not about replacing teaching with technology.

It’s about strengthening it—with clarity, intention, and a human-centered approach.
